RISQ

Responses to Illness Severity Quantification score

Overview

Team Lead: Dr. Nancy Dale

Objective

Developing Responses to Illness Severity Quantification (RISQ) score, to quantify severity of illness in resource limited settings. RISQ is a decision support tool to guide prioritization decisions for children with acute malnutrition.

Projects

We developed and performed the initial validation of the Responses to Illness Severity Quantification (RISQ) score.  In collaboration with our partners at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Nigeria we completed a prospective observational study of children with severe acute malnutrition. Vital signs and outcomes were used to evaluate items and candidate scores.  Enabled by Catalyst Grant funding from the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health. This project was started in June 2019.

Future work

Evaluation of RISQ as a clinical decision support tool in acute malnutrition and other acute illnesses in inpatient and outpatient resource-limited settings.
